چکیده

Epithelioid sarcoma is a rare, aggressive soft tissue tumor of unknown histogenesis showing predominantly epithelioid cytomorphology. We conducted a conventional and molecular cytogenetic study of a 27-year-old male with epithelioid sarcoma with angiomatoid features. Cytogenetic analysis of epithelioid sarcoma metaphase spreads by GTG-banding revealed a diploid chromosome complement with structural and numerical aberrations. Comparative genomic hybridization analysis demonstrated the amplification of 3p24~pter, 4p15.2-p16 and 18q23, while chromosome losses involved 3p13-p14, 3q24-q26.1, 9q21, and 11q21. Fluorescence in situ hybridization assessment showed normal hybridization patterns for the CMYC and CCND1 loci; CCND1 RNA overexpression was detected

Background: Epithelioid sarcoma is a malignant soft tissue tumor of uncertain histogenesis, categorized as a morphologically distinct neoplasm that characteristically affects the distal parts of the extremities in young adults. In fact, epithelioid sarcoma is the most common soft tissue sarcoma in the hand and wrist. Case report: This 32 year-old male presented with an inguinal swelling, for w...

Differentiating and Categorizing of Liposarcoma and Synovial Sarcoma Neoplasms by Fluorescence in Situ Hybridization

Background & Objective: Soft tissue sarcomas (STS) constitute an uncommon and heterogeneous group of tumors of mesenchymal origin and various cytogenetic abnormalities ranging from distinct genomic rearrangements, such as chromosomal translocations and amplifications, to more intricate rearrangements involving multiple chromosomes. Fluorescence in situ...

Epithelioid sarcoma of the right ilium mimicking sacroiliitis.

Epithelioid sarcoma represents less than 1% of soft tissue sarcomas and has a high recurrence rate and strong ability to invade the regional lymphatic pathways. Classic epithelioid sarcoma has a predilection for young men and usually affects the distal extremities, while the proximal-type is characterized by different histological features and most commonly occurs in the proximal part of the ex...

Epithelioid inflammatory myofibroblastic sarcoma: a clinicopathological, immunohistochemical and molecular cytogenetic analysis of five additional cases and review of the literature

BACKGROUND To explore the clinical characteristics and pathological features of epithelioid inflammatory myofibroblastic sarcoma (EIMS) with emphasis on the diagnostic spectrum. METHODS The clinical data and histological features in 5 additional cases of EIMS were retrospectively reviewed. Immunohistochemical study and interphase fluorescence in situ hybridization (FISH) analysis were carried...

SMARCB1/INI1 tumor suppressor gene is frequently inactivated in epithelioid sarcomas.

Epithelioid sarcoma is a rare soft tissue neoplasm of uncertain lineage that usually arises in the distal extremities of adults, presents a high rate of recurrences and metastases and frequently poses diagnostic dilemmas. The recently reported large-cell "proximal-type" variant is characterized by increased aggressiveness, deep location, preferential occurrence in proximal/axial regions of olde...
